| Final Fantasy 8 - Reviews - #1 |
Ah yes. Final Fantasy 8. In my opinion one of Squaresoft's games that were absolutely incredible, yet had slight annoyances to it. The story behind FF 8 is that of a young man named Squall Leonhart, attempting to find his way as a SEED, the sort of Special Forces of GARDEN. GARDEN is like a school, a safehouse for those training to become SEEDs. Along the way, Squall meets up with several other supporting characters, along with a mysterious dream man seeming to have some connection to Squall...Throw in an evil sorceress, plotting to take over the world and voila! An instantaneous RPG. Now what I have to say about the pros and cons of Final Fantasy 8.
Pros: Graphically, it was a huge leap from those damn blocks in Final Fantasy 7. The backrounds were nice, the characters were ten times better, it was just better in that aspect. The story was deep, yet still allowed time for that famous humor, AKA The Girl Next Door. Hahaha! That still gets a rise out of me. The battle system was very well put together, and I especially liked the GF summoning system.
Cons: Well, compared to Final Fantasy 7, the storyline was something Squaresoft could have pulled out of their...well you know. Yet, that is nothing compared to, in my opinion the worst thing about this game. THE BLOODY MAGIC SYSTEM!! Alright, I understand, every game, there has to be something new, but come on. Final Fantasy 7 had the perfect battle system, as it was almost the same as the older battle systems, which were still ten times better than anything now. But Magic always was Magic. In this game, they try to make magic like a bloody item. What is the purpose of having Magic, when it is the same as using a consumable item. I understand the draw system attempted to make the game a bit more challenging, but come on. Drawing magic from an enemy, which will be used up in a battle, without possibility of parole via Ether? No. Not a chance. Sorry. That is my cons paragraph, and I won't even go into how annoying that accursed card game was.
Graphics: 9/10
Graphically, a huge leap from FF 7. Squaresoft always has a knack for improving graphics, and this was no different. 9 points.
Music: 9/10
It would have received a 10 out of 10 by me, as the music is absolutely beautiful, but I can't say I cared much for the song that everyone loves, "Eyes On Me" I think it is. I mean, I am the biggest Final Fantasy music critic and fan in the world, ya don't believe me, talk to me sometime, but the vocals on that left a very bad taste in my mouth. Sorry.
Gameplay: 8/10
Great game, great system. Loses two points cause of the Magic. Ya know what? That in itself is magic. Two points magically disappear. Incredible really.
Storyline: 9/10
Storyline is the most important part of an RPG, and in my opinion, Squaresoft came through once again. It was a great storyline. Ya know what though? FF X-2 had such a better storyline. ::snickers at his sarcastic remarks.:: Let us just say, that as long as I live, as long as an RPG made by Square doesn't sink down to the level of X-2 again, I will give it at least a 7. Thank you, and this has been my review of FF 8.
